Title:
Phase Transitions in the J1−J2 Ising Model on the Square Lattice
Abstract:
The J1-J2 Ising model on the square lattice is one of the simplest classical models to study the effects of competing inter-actions and the resulting phase transitions. In spite of previous studies, there remains a controversy regarding the nature of the transition into the “stripe“ phase in this model for J2/J1 > 0.5. We analyzed quantities such as Binder cumulant, specific heat and susceptibility. The finite size scalings of these quantities indicate the phase transition for J2/J1>0.5 is continuous despite there are partial first order phase transition signatures shown by the negative and divergent Binder cumulant and bimodal distribution of order parameter and energy.
