Strings, black holes, and heavy ion collisions

Speaker: Hong Liu, CTP, MIT

When: February 26, 2007 (Mon), 12:30PM to 01:30PM (add to my calendar)

This event is part of the HET Seminar Series.

Data from the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) indicate that the hot matter produced in RHIC collisions must be described by QCD in a regime of strong interactions and thus pose new theoretical challenges. We discuss some recent applications of string theory techniques to heavy ion collisions including jet quenching and quarkonium suppression from velocity scaling.
