SUMMARY:Strings\, black holes\, and heavy ion collisions
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Hong Liu\, CTP\, MIT\n\nPart of the HET Seminar Serie
s.\n\nData from the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) indicate that th
e hot matter produced in RHIC collisions must be described by QCD in a regi
me of strong interactions and thus pose new theoretical challenges. We disc
uss some recent applications of string theory techniques to heavy ion colli
sions including jet quenching and quarkonium suppression from velocity scal
	ing.
