Abstract:
In electroweak baryogenesis, baryon-violating sphaleron transitions convert CP-violating densities generated during the electroweak phase transition into baryon number asymmetry. Modern methods to calculate the CP-violating sources rely on quantum Boltzmann equations expanded in powers of gradients of the Higgs vev profile. I show how to power count in gradients consistently and thereby uncover a previously unnoticed source for the CP-violating densities and therefore the baryon asymmetry.
