Diquark correlations in baryons on the lattice

Speaker: Ron Babich, Boston University

This event is part of the HET Seminar Series.

The notion of a diquark, a correlated pair of quarks, is an old one that has been invoked to explain many aspects of hadron phenomenology. In this talk, I will discuss what the lattice can tell us about the strength of spatial correlations between quarks in baryons. I will present results for fixed-gauge “wave functions” calculated in quenched lattice QCD with the overlap Dirac operator, as well as results for diquark mass differences. These indicate the presence of enhanced correlation in channels favored by the color-hyperfine interaction of QCD-inspired quark models.
