Axions at LHC and flavor factories

Speaker: Diego Redigolo, Weizmann Institute of Science

When: February 13, 2019 (Wed), 11:30AM to 12:30PM (add to my calendar)

This event is part of the HET Seminar Series.

I will discuss different physics cases leading to light new particles below the EW scale. The main focus will be on heavy axion solutions of the strong CP problem where the QCD axion is testable at colliders, but also pseudo-Golstones from Supersymmetry and Partial Compositeness will be discussed. The common feature of these classes of models is to provide a light new state below the EW scale which generically couples to both photons and gluons. This physics target is surprisingly unconstrained by current searches. I will present a new search program to hunt for resonances below the EW scale at the LHC and at flavor experiments such as LHCb and Belle II. Finally, I will discuss further challenges and new directions to improve the experimental reach.
