Abstract: This talk will review some elements of what is known about soft-collinear factorization by various approaches, and why it is important. I will then give a completely general and manifestly gauge-invariant and regulator independent factorization formula at the amplitude level, which is proven to all orders in perturbation theory. This formulation makes explicit many implicit elements of pinch analyses, provides an operator definition of the zero-bin subtraction and leads to an almost effortless derivation of Soft-Collinear Effective Theory.
