Abstract: The role of the NRC Board on Science Education is, like all Academy Boards, to organize workshops and studies intended to provide policy makers and practitioners with research-based advice. I will discuss the work of the Board with a primary focus on two recent studies, including "A Framework for K-12 Science Education" and "Discipline Based Education Research", and the messages these have for college level science instruction as well as for k-12 teacher preparation and teaching.
