How to get a postdoc: Personal reflections on the academic hiring process

This event is part of the Graduate Student Council Events.

Around half of all physics PhD graduates continue working in academia as postdocs. Yet, there is very little formal guidance for students on whether they should pursue a postdoc or how to apply for one. In this talk, I will share my recent experiences as a soon-to-be PhD on the academic job market. I will give an overview of the application process, from initial search to accepting an offer, pass on some helpful advice I received from mentors and other postdocs, and summarize what I learned along the way.
