Felber J. Arroyave Bermudez (Profile)
Colombian Biologist. Currently, PhD Student on environmental systems program at UC Merced. Interested in complex systems and environmental problems. Before coming UC Merced I got my Msc on Environment and Development in the “Universidad Nacional de Colombia”. Illegal trade of wildlife is the central topic of my dissertation which I have been addressed throughout a Socioecological perspective by using network analysis and other frames from complexity. I expect that my results will be useful to policy makers and practitioner for tackling illegal behaviors that threaten biodiversity and for promoting conservation and societal outcomes in those populations in which wildlife is part of the livelihoods. Parallel projects include analysis of green crimes, research in park systems, national systems of research & innovation, ecological networks, institutional cooperation and natural resources management.
PhD in Environmental Systems from UC Merced (2018-2023) — coadvised with Prof. Jeff Jenkins

Dr. Dong Yang (Profile)
My current research has been investigating Social Science from different perspectives, from the mechanisms of social networks to information spreading on social networks, to predicting the relationships between users, with graph-embedding methods. I’m developing new analytical techniques with complex networks and machine learning to explore some universal patterns and fundamental mechanisms in many real systems.
