When an object is heated and expands, what happens to holes in the object? Do they get larger or smaller?

The holes expand! An easy way to see why is to draw a circle on metal and then heat it. The circle will expand. If instead of a drawn circle, the circle is cut out, the resulting hole will expand in the same manner as the drawn circle.
