Pulleys and levers are devices that magnify or reduced a force. But there is no free lunch!! If the force is reduced by some factor, the distance through which the force is exerted must go up by the same factor to compensate.

Thus the same amount of work is done whether you apply a force directly or whether you use a pulley or lever to exert a smaller force.

Practical pulley and lever devices are wrenches, car jacks, crowbars, hoists, and wheelbarrows.
