There is strong experimental evidence for the existence of inhomogenous phases known as "stripe" phases in cuprates and nickelates. These stripe phases are the result of the strong interplay between kinetic and magnetic energies in the system. We are currently investigating their ORIGIN, interaction with DISORDER AND LATTICE POTENTIALS , how they behave in the presence of CO-DOPING, and the possible relationship between stripe states and high temperature superconductivity. We are also very interested on how the anisotropies introduced by stripes affect macroscopic physics like the VORTICES in the superconducting phase.
