Troubleshooting
If you have trouble running the Physlet after doing all that, here are a couple of possible ideas:
- The directory structure is not correct. The jar files should be located in a "classes" folder, and the Physlet file should be located in a separate folder at the same level as the "classes" folder.
- You may not have a Java Virtual Machine installed, or Java is not enabled on your browser. This is easy to check - just try to run any Physlet, such as a Physlet at the main Physlet site at Davidson College. If you get a Physlet to run there you know your browser is configured correctly. If not, first check the Java settings on your browser. In Internet Explorer, for instance, go to the "Tools" menu and select "Internet Options" and then the "Advanced" tab. Scroll down until you see "Java (Sun)" and/or "Microsoft VM". Check either the box for "Java (Sun)" or all three boxes under "Microsoft VM", then try to run a Physlet again (this may require a re-boot of your computer first).
It's possible that you don't have a Java Virtual Machine installed. One place to get the Java VM is from http://java.sun.com/. Another possibility is to get one from http://java-virtual-machine.net/.
