Resistors in series

Two resistors, with resistances R and 9R, are connected in series with an AC source. How do their voltages compare?

  1. The R resistor has 9 times more voltage than the 9R resistor
  2. The 9R resistor has 9 times more voltage than the R resistor
  3. The R resistor has more, but not 9 times more
  4. The 9R resistor has more, but not 9 times more
  5. Their voltages are equal

Because they're in series they have the same current, and V = IR, so the resistor with resistance 9R has 9 times the voltage as the resistor with resistance R.
