Chris's Bridge Page

"Numbers are for monkeys with calculators, bridge is a real subject." -Phil Stephens

I learned to play bridge in 2006 while at Oxford University. Right now, I play a system based mostly on SAYC (despite being taught Acol) but am interested in playing a strong club / precision system. My attempts at a summary of such a system (albeit incomplete) are here.

I would like to start a bridge club here at Boston University but I am not sure how to start an official club, and I do not have enough time to do it on my own. If you would be interested please let me know. I think the club should offer both "class" to teach bridge to beginners or newbies as well as offer a bi-weekly duplicate game for players who feel comfortable playing without help. I have begun to put together a teaching guide which I think would serve as a good starting point for teaching newbies that would like to join. Of course, the best way to learn is to play, so I would encourage we spend most of are time doing that (e.g. playing ,mini-bridge) but some informal instructional discussions are needed to truly learn the game. But, if you have any interest in helping form or joining a bridge club here at BU, let me know! If we get big enough, maybe we could compete with other schools or in a public league in the greater Boston area!

A link to some witty bridge commentary. ("Four hearts is a very good bid -- but on some other hand.")

A similar link. ("He may bid and he may not. I believe that covers all possibilities.")

A link to all things bridge. (bridge conventions, squeeze plays, and lots of other goodies)

A link that is sure to get a laugh. Some spectacularly poor bridge from across the pond. (currently on hiatus)

A link to Bridge Base Online! A huge online bridge room that welcome players of all skill levels: from world class to first timers! There is duplicate bridge, rubber bridge, partnership bidding rooms, viewgraph theatre, teaching guides, and great links. And, it's free! If you do not run windows (like me!) then use this JAVA web applet (also free)!
