Research Interests:
I am a member of the Novel Materials Laboratory, headed by Professor Kevin Smith.
My research is broadly aimed at determining the electronic structure of new and unusual condensed matter systems. Primarily, I use experimental techniques based on synchrotron based soft x-ray spectroscopy to extract band structure information from these novel systems. In particular I focus on the techniques of resonant x-ray emission spectroscopy (RXES) and angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES).
I am also interested in the theoretical basis for the novel electronic structures found in these materials, and regularly use calculations based on the density functional theory and Hartree-Fock approximations in concert with my experimental work.
