Biography:

Most recently, I taught for eight years in the Newton, MA public school system.  I taught Physics First, which is a conceptual approach to physics, ensuring that all high schoolers experience some instruction in physics before they enter college.  I have also taught our special needs population and senior physics courses ranging from our lower level to our Advanced Placement courses.  I was co-advisor to both the Science team and the Environmental Club.  I have taught in many informal settings including afterschool clubs and scouts.  I volunteered in the Cambridge public schools and student taught in Waltham, MA.    I have participated in BU's ITOP program as well as many other professional development Content institutes.  I live in Belmont and have three school-aged children.

As the Physics Department's first Teacher in Residence, I am on campus as an agent of change, applying classroom wisdom to the tasks of identifying, training, and supporting teachers of physics.  Specifically, I am in the Undergraduate resource room office hours to provide instructional assistance and collegiality with undergraduate majors and non-majors.  I am here to promote our new collaboraiton with the School of Education allowing our Physics majors to have a dual concentration in Physics and teaching, leading them towards Teacher certification.  I meet weekly with Professors, Teaching Fellows and our new Learning Assistants for four undergraduate introductory physics courses.  We are working on making the discussion sections as useful as possible for the current students.  Our goals are to use Reform teaching methods in discussion and lecture which involves greater engagement by students during classtime.
