SUMMARY:Ultrafast THz Spectroscopy and Photonics
DESCRIPTION:Featuring David Cooke\, McGill University\nHosted by: Richard A
veritt\n\nPart of the Biophysics/Condensed Matter Seminar Series.\n\nAbstra
ct: In this talk I will outline some recent experiments using very broadban
d\n(0.3 – 30 THz) pulses of far-infrared light called THz pulses to p
robe\nfemtosecond and picosecond charge carrier dynamics and conduction mec
hanisms\nin materials such as bulk and nanocrystalline semiconductors\, rev
ealing the\ninfluence of disorder and confinement. I will also discuss our
recent work\non dynamic photonic components where we use an optical beam of
light to\ncontrol the propagation of a THz pulse inside a silicon chip.
