SUMMARY:Squeezing blood from stone: multivariate methods for higgs search i
n di-photons at CMS
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Yuri Gereshtein\, Rutgers University\n\nPart of the H
ET Seminar Series.\n\nAbstract:\nI'll describe the results of a search for
the light higgs boson decaying into photon pairs \nusing the data CMS
experiment collected in 2011 LHC run. Although a search for a narrow\nreson
ance may seem straightforward\, it turns out that kinematical and instrumen
tal effects\nintroduce significant complications. To deal with them\, CMS c
ollaboration has developed \nseveral novel multi-variate methods
that I will discuss in detail.
