SUMMARY:Jason Olejarz - Preliminary Oral Examination
DESCRIPTION:\nPart of the Preliminary Oral Exam.\n\nTitle: Zero-Temperatur
e Freezing in the 3d Kinetic Ising Model\n\nExamining Committee: Sid Redner
	\, Anders Sandvik\, Rama Bansil\, Lee Roberts\n\nAbstract:\n\nWe study the
long-time state of the kinetic Ising model on periodic cubic lattices after
a quench to zero temperature. In contrast to the conventional picture fro
m coarsening dynamics\, we find (i) clusters at long time are highly interp
enetrating and topologically complex\, (ii) the long-time state is almost n
ever static\, but rather contains "blinker" spins that can flip forever wit
h no energy cost\, and (iii) the energy relaxation is extraordinarily slow\
, with time scales growing exponentially with the system size.\n\nBest wish
	es to Jason!!
