SUMMARY:On the Thermal History of Gauge Mediation
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Andrey Katz\, University of Maryland\n\nPart of the H
ET Seminar Series.\n\nAbstract:\nMany messenger models of gauge mediation a
re based on meta-stable vacua.\nIn this talk I will discuss the thermal his
tory of generic messenger\nmodels\, also known as ''Extra-Ordinary gauge me
diation``. I will show\nthat while some of the models clearly prefer a supe
rsymmetric vacuum\,\nthere is a vast class of models where the answer stron
gly depends on\nthe initial conditions. Along with the vacuum at the origin
\, the high\ntemperature thermal potential also possesses a local minimum f
ar away\nfrom the origin. This vacuum has no analog at zero temperature. Th
e\nfirst order phase transition from this vacuum into the supersymmetric\nv
acuum is parametrically suppressed\, and the theory\, starting from that\nv
acuum\, is likely to evolve to the desired gauge-mediation vacuum.
