SUMMARY:The Galactic 511-keV Signal\, Hidden Valleys\, and Supernovae
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Hooman Davoudiasl\, Brookhaven National Laboratory\n\
nPart of the HET Seminar Series.\n\nAbstract:\nWe examine under what circum
stances the INTEGRAL/SPI 511 keV signal\ncan originate from decays of MeV-s
cale composite states produced by:\n(A) thermonuclear (type Ia) or (B) core
collapse supernovae (SNe).\nThe requisite dynamical properties that would
account for the observed\ndata are quite distinct\, for cases (A) and (B).
We show that these\nrequirements can be met in simple hidden valley models.
An uncommon\nfeature of scenario (A) is that the dynamics of type Ia SNe\
, standard\ncandles for cosmological measurements\, might be affected by ou
	r\nmechanism. Simple models for scenario (B) include a long-lived\nparticl
	e that could\, under certain circumstances\, be a viable dark\nmatter candi
date. The appearance of long-lived particles in typical\nmodels leads to co
smological constraints and we address how a\nconsistent cosmic history may
	be achieved.
