SUMMARY:How Organic Semiconductors Work
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Art Ramirez\, University of Santa Cruz\nHosted by: Be
	nnett Goldberg\nPoster: http://physics.bu.edu/internal//posters/2009_Fall/0
7_Ramirez.pdf\n\nPart of the Physics Department Colloquia Series.\n\nAbstra
ct: Electronics made largely from carbon have found some applications su
ch as in cell phone displays. To realize the full promise of such carbon\,
or "organic"\, semiconductors\, a good understanding of fundamental process
es is needed. I will address questions such as "how does an organic semico
nductor become doped?" and "what is the ultimate speed of organic devices?"
in the context of field effect transistors and photovoltaic devices made f
rom crystals of small molecules (rubrene\, C60\, HBC). I will discuss exp
eriments that demonstrated\, for the first time\, controlled doping in orga
nic semiconductors. I will also discuss the consequences of crystallinity f
	or organic photovoltaics.
