SUMMARY:IceCube: The first kilometer scale neutrino telescope
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Kara Hoffman\, University of Maryland\nPoster: http:/
	/physics.bu.edu/internal//posters/2009_Spring/HEES_07_Hoffman.pdf\n\nPart o
f the HEE Seminar Series.\n\nAbstract: IceCube\, the first neutrino telesco
pe with an instrumented volume of a cubic kilometer\, is currently under co
nstruction at the South Pole. I will review the science motivation as well
as the technical challenges in designing and building such a colossal inst
rument in one of the harshest environments on Earth\, and I will give a gli
mpse of the first physics results from IceCube. In addition\, I will descr
ibe future extensions to the observatory\, including an embedded low energy
array already under construction\, as well as plans to extend the observat
	ory to the GZK regime.
