SUMMARY:"Vibration spectrum of a multi-element nanomechanical structure"
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Jerome Dorignac\, Boston University\n\nPart of the Co
ndensed Matter Theory Seminar Series.\n\nWe have developed a simple continu
um model to analyze the vibrations\n of a nanomechanical multi-element s
tructure capable of reaching GHz\n frequencies. Our analytical model ca
ptures the main\n features of the vibrational modes observed both numeri
cally and\n experimentally and allows us to classify them in a simple wa
	y. Furthermore\,\n it predicts interesting effects related to the geomet
ry. Our model proves\n also useful for treating the nonlinear dynamics o
f the structure\n and enables us to analyze the mechanism of anharmonic
coupling\n between two specific widely spaced modes of the resonator.
