SUMMARY:Epidemics on Interacting Networks
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Mark Dickison\n\nPart of the Departmental Seminars.\n
\nDissertation Committee: H.E. Stanley\, Ophelia Tsui\, Lee Roberts\,
Karl Ludwig\, William Klein Abstract: Epidemic spreading is of great impor
tance in public health\, as well as in related fields such as infrastructur
e. While complex network models have been used with great success to
analyze epidemic behavior on single networks\, the reality is that our worl
d is made up of a system of interacting networks that do not necessarily sh
are common characteristics. I introduce a model for constructing inte
racting networks and show when epidemics emerge\, both singly on a sub-netw
ork\, and globally across all interconnected networks.
