SUMMARY:A FUNCTIONAL RENORMALIZATION GROUP STUDY OF STRONGLY CORRELATED ELE
	CTRON SYSTEMS
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Nahom Yirga\, Boston University\, Physics Department\
n\nPart of the Departmental Seminars.\n\nThis work is concerned with the ap
plication of functional renormalization group\n(fRG) to the study of intera
cting fermionic systems. We consider a decoupled for-\nmulation of the fRG
equations that retains much of the flow of relevant modes in\nthe system. T
he decoupling is optimized in the frequency and momentum domains\nfor a gen
eral multiband system of interacting electrons. This optimized decoupling\n
is then used to derive the flow equations that describe fluctuations in mod
el Hamil-\ntonians for Cuprate and Pnictide superconductors. Accounting for
the frequency\nmodes in the system allows us to explore the impact of coup
ling phonons to these\nmodel Hamiltonians. We construct a full phase diagra
m of the systems studied as\na function of doping\, temperature and couplin
	g. Alterations to the diagram due to\nelectron-phonon coupling is derived.
The results of the decoupled formulation is in\nagreement with results in t
he literature for many of the models considered. Further\nthe fRG captures
the sensitivity of susceptibilities of Cuprate Hamiltonians to band\nstruct
ure\, the enhanced role of Hunds coupling in Pnictide systems and the impac
	t\nof phonons in multiband Hamiltonians.
