SUMMARY:Phononic Frequency Combs – A New Addition to Photonics\, MEMS\, Q
uantum Information Science and Material Nanoscience
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Adarsh Ganesan \, the US National Institute of Standa
rds and Technology\n\nPart of the Biophysics/Condensed Matter Seminar Serie
s.\n\nPhononic frequency combs (PFC) are the mechanical analogs of celebrat
ed photonic frequency combs. These represent a newly documented physical ph
enomenon in the well researched physical domain of MEMS resonators [1]. The
emergence of PFC is mediated by nonlinear modal coupling. Through a series
of experiments with MEMS resonators\,\nvarious features of PFC have now be
en identified. These include drive parameters for comb operation\, hysteres
is for comb spectrum tailoring and growth\, saturation and attenuation mech
anisms of combs\, and nonlinear sensitivity to physical perturbations. My t
alk will describe the physics of phononic frequency combs and how these cou
ld be foundational to the fields of photonics\, MEMS\, quantum information
	science\, and material nanoscience.\n\nJoin on Zoom: https://bostonu.zoom.u
