SUMMARY:Theory of anomalous Floquet higher-order topology
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Zhicheng Yang\, Univ. of Maryland\n\nPart of the Biop
	hysics/Condensed Matter Seminar Series.\n\nIn this talk\, I will present a
general framework to understand\ntwo dimensional "anomalous Floquet higher-
order topological insulators"\n(AFHOTIs) protected by point group symmetrie
	s. Such AFHOTIs are defined\nby their robust\, symmetry-protected corner mo
des pinned at special\nquasienergies\, even though all their Floquet bands
carry trivial band\ntopology. I will show that the nontrivial topology can
be diagnosed from\nthe phase spectrum of the full time-evolution operator w
ithin one\nperiod\, instead of the quasienergy bands at stroboscopic times
only. In\nparticular\, the phase spectrum of AFHOTIs features robust 3D Dir
ac/Weyl\nlike singularities\, which cannot be removed without closing the\n
quasienergy gap or breaking the point group symmetry. I will further\ndemon
strate the higher-order bulk-boundary correspondence for AFHOTIs\nusing dim
ensional reduction. This allows for a systematic classification\nof 2D AFHO
TIs protected by rotation and dihedral groups
