SUMMARY:The Search for Low-Mass Axion Dark Matter
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Chiara Salemi\, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
\nHosted by: Eric Boyers\n\nPart of the Graduate Student Council Events.\n\
nPart of the student seminar series. A recording will be posted on the even
t page.\n\nAbstract: Despite evading detection for decades\, dark matter re
mains the best explanation for a multitude of anomalies in astronomical obs
ervations of stars\, galaxies\, and the cosmic microwave background. One o
f the best-motivated candidates to be the dark matter is the axion\, an ult
ra-light boson that can also solve outstanding issues in the strong force a
nd is predicted by many high-energy theories. In this talk I will discuss t
wo current experimental searches for low-mass axions\, ABRACADABRA and DM R
adio\, including preliminary results from the latest run of the prototype e
xperiment ABRACADABRA-10 cm. These experiments use a lumped-element method
to search for the feeble interactions between dark matter axions and magnet
	ic fields.
