SUMMARY:Unearthing New Physics in Early LHC Data
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Kevin Black\, Harvard University\n\nPart of the HEE S
eminar Series.\n\nAbstract: The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) will produce it
s first proton-proton collisions later this year. Because of the unpreceden
ted center-of-mass energy of 14 TeV\, it will extend the mass reach for the
discovery of new particles dramatically and allow the first broad-band sur
vey of new physics at the TeV energy scale. The ATLAS detector is one of fo
ur experiments at the LHC and is in its end phase of construction and initi
al stages of commissioning. I will discuss the potential of discovering phy
sics beyond the Standard Model physics in early LHC data detailing some of
the experimental challenges in understanding the detector and early data. F
inally\, I will present new results from the ATLAS collaboration involving
a few particularly promising final states involving multiple leptons and to
	p quarks.
