SUMMARY:New constraints on bad gauge symmetries
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Jeff Dror\, Berkeley/LBL\n\nPart of the HET Seminar S
eries.\n\nNew light vectors with dimension-4 couplings to Standard Model st
ates have (energy / vector mass)^2 enhanced production rates unless the cur
rent they couple to is conserved. In this talk I will discuss the consequen
ces of gauging (almost) any such current considering vectors coupled to ano
malous currents\, fermionic currents\, and bosonic currents. Looking for en
ergy-enhanced processes\, I will derive new constraints on the couplings of
such vectors\, that are significantly stronger than the previous literatur
e for a wide variety of models. The new limits arise from a range of proces
ses\, including rare Z decays and flavor changing meson decays\, and rule o
ut a number of phenomenologically-motivated proposals.
