SUMMARY:Observation of the Higgs Boson in its Decay to Tau Leptons at CMS
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Isobel Ojalvo\, Princeton University\nHosted by: Tuli
	ka Bose\nPoster: http://physics.bu.edu/internal//files/download/Ojalvo-post
er.pdf\n\nPart of the HEE Seminar Series.\n\nThis past year with data colle
cted from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) using the Compact Muon Solenoid e
xperiment\, the first observation of the SM higgs in its decay to tau lepto
ns with a single experiment was announced. Due to its very short lifetime\,
the tau lepton is only able to be detected via its decay to lighter lepton
s and mesons and\, especially notable at a hadron collider\, its signature
can very easily be mimicked by a quark or gluon jet. We discuss this exciti
ng result along with recent advances in tau trigger\, reconstruction and id
entification which made this result possible. We will also discuss prospect
s for future measurements and searches at the LHC and beyond.
