SUMMARY:"The Born Again Universe"
DESCRIPTION:Featuring David E. Kaplan\, Johns Hopkins University\n\nPart of
the HET Seminar Series.\n\nWe present a class of non-singular\, bouncing c
osmologies which do not rely on unstable\, null energy condition (NEC) viol
ating fluids. These cosmologies evade singularity theorems through the use
of vorticity in compact extra dimensions. The vorticity combats the focusin
g of geodesics during the contracting phase. The compact extra dimensions r
ely on stable NEC violating sources such as Casimir energy. The four dimens
ional effective theory contains an NEC violating fluid of Kaluza-Klein exci
tations of the higher dimensional metric. These spacetime metrics could pot
entially allow dynamical relaxation to solve the cosmological constant prob
lem. These ideas can also be used to support traversable Lorentzian wormhol
	es.
