SUMMARY:The 30 GeV Dimuon Excess At ALEPH
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Lukas Pritch\, Boston University\nHosted by: Kevin Bl
ack\n\nPart of the HEE Seminar Series.\n\nA recent reanalysis and ALEPH dat
a taken in 1992-95 finds an excess of dimuon + bb events\nat 30 GeV with a
narrow width. We examine explanations of this excess where the resonance\ni
s a new scalar particle in a variation on a two-Higgs-doublet model. There
are two simple\nexplanations of this type\, but only one is favored by the
data\, where both the lighter CP-even\nand the light CP-odd Higgs scalar ha
ve masses around 30 GeV. We also offer testable predictions\nand a possible
no-go theorem for this type of model.
