SUMMARY:Dual Time Scales in Simulated Annealing of a Two-dimensional Ising
	Spin Glass
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Na Xu\n\nPart of the Departmental Seminars.\n\nWe app
ly a generalized Kibble-Zurek out-of-equilibrium scaling ansatz to simulate
	d annealing\nwhen approaching the spin-glass transition at temperature T =
	0 of the two-dimensional Ising model\nwith random J = +/-1 couplings. Analy
zing the spin-glass order parameter and the excess energy\nas functions of
the system size and the annealing velocity\, we found scaling where the ene
rgy relaxes\nslower than the order parameter\, i.e.\, there are two differe
nt dynamic exponents. We argue that such\nbehavior arises as a consequence
of the entropy-driven ordering mechanism within droplet theory.\nIn the con
text of optimization\, our study provides an example of robust dense-region
solutions for\nwhich the excess energy (the conventional cost function) ma
y not be the best measure of success.\nhttp://arxiv.org/abs/1609.09024\n\nD
