SUMMARY:Developing and Understanding Methods for Quasi-Adiabatic Dynamics
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Dries Sels\, BU\n\nPart of the Condensed Matter Theor
	y Seminar Series.\n\nDeveloping and understanding methods to induce quasi-a
	diabatic dynamics at finite times is paramount to the advancement of quantu
	m information technologies. As a way to achieve this\, I will introduce the
	 notion of transitionless or counter-diabatic driving. I will discuss how t
	ransitionless driving allows to engineer time-dependent protocols which avo
	id any transition between energy levels\, and discuss its limitations. Next
	\, I will discuss a new variational approach to this problem that allows on
	e to construct approximate physical counter-diabatic Hamiltonians. I shown 
	that\, in certain problems\, these approximate Hamiltonians can decrease di
	ssipation and increase fidelity of ground state preparation by order of mag
	nitude. This points to novel approaches to designing fast annealing protoco
	ls\, and more efficient quantum and classical computational devices and alg
	orithms.
