SUMMARY:Dark Sector: A Tale of Two Components
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Manuel Buen Abad Najar\n\nPart of the Preliminary Ora
	l Exam.\n\nExamining Committee: Martin Schmaltz\, Emanuel Katz\, Claudio Ch
amon\, Edward Kearns (Chair)\n\nAbstract: \n\nThe recent measurements of th
e Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) from the Planck telescope\, and of the
Large Scale Structure (LSS) from different experiments\, have confirmed t
he\nstandard model of cosmology\, or ΛCDM. Nevertheless\, many alternative
cosmological models are\nalso consistent with this data. Some mild tension
s between Planck and these LSS experiments\nabout the measurements of the H
ubble constant (H0) and of the Matter Power Spectrum for sizes of 8h−1Mpc
(σ8) hint to models beyond ΛCDM.\n\nIn this talk I present a recent prop
osal for a Dark Sector which consists of two components:\na cold Dark Matte
r one\, and another of Dark Radiation\, along with their mutual interaction
s.\nThe presence of the Dark Radiation resolves the tension in the measurem
ent of H0\, while the\ninteractions address the discrepancy in σ8.\n\nI de
scribe in detail the mechanism with which this model deals with the mention
ed tensions\,\nusing the equations for the evolution of the cosmological an
isotropies. In addition\, I present a\nsimple analytical solution for the l
imit case in which the Dark Matter and the Dark Radiation\nform a tightly c
oupled plasma throughout the history of the Universe. Finally\, I show that
the fit\nof this new model to the cosmological data is better than ΛCDMâ
	€™s.\n\n![Manuel](/resources/event-image/1662/8035da2_original)
