SUMMARY:The Quantum Geometric Tensor: Novel Applications in Isolated Quantu
	m System
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Tiago Grangeiro Souza\n\nPart of the Departmental Sem
	inars.\n\nDissertation Committee: Anatoli Polkovnikov\, Claudio Chamon\, S
	hyam Erramilli\, Alexander Sushkov\, Pankaj Mehta\n\nAbstract:\n\nGeometric
ideas always played an important role in the understanding\nand the unicat
ion of physical phenomena. The main objective of this talk\nis to highlight
several novel geometrical and topological properties of isolated\nquantum
systems characterized by the quantum geometric tensor.\nFirst\, we show how
the knowledge of such properties allows one to explore\ntopologically prot
ected regions by adiabatically breaking and re-establishing\nsymmetries. Ne
xt\, by calculating shortest paths between dierent points in\nHilbert space
\, we develop optimal protocols for adiabatic state preparation\,\nwhich we
re used in recent experiments with superconducting qubits. These\ngeodesic
paths are shown to optimize important quantities such as the mean\ndelity a
nd squared energy variance. Further\, we establish how topological\ncharges
are protected and what that means for the topological characteriza-\ntion
of dierent Hamiltonians. Finally\, we discuss the logarithmic divergence\no
f the quantum geometric tensor with respect to the system size. A similar\n
divergence behavior is observed for the entanglement entropy in conformal\n
eld theories and also for the entropy of black-holes.\n\n![Tiago](/resource
