SUMMARY:Universality far from equilibrium: from integrability to many-body
	localization
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Romain Vasseur\, UC Berkeley\n\nPart of the Biophysic
s/Condensed Matter Seminar Series.\n\nIn this talk\, I will argue that the
concepts of quantum criticality and universality can emerge at very high en
ergy\, far from thermal equilibrium. After discussing examples of universal
ity in quantum quenches — the abrupt change of a control parameter in a q
uantum system\, I will review the physics of many-body localized systems th
at fail to self-thermalize in isolation. I will then describe the new type
s of nonequilibrium phase transitions that can arise in the presence of man
y-body localization\, and introduce novel effective renormalization group a
pproaches to capture their universal critical properties.
