SUMMARY:From String Theory to Quantum Dot Experiments

	of the Physics Department Colloquia Series.\n\nAbstract: Part of the string
	 theory revolution of the 1980¹s was the \ndevelopment of conformal field 
	theory. While its applicability as a \ntheory of everything is still unclea
	r\, it led to solutions of models of \nconduction electrons interacting wit
	h magnetic impurities that predict \nremarkable behavior. A gated semi-cond
	uctor device was recently \ntailored to finally provide an indisputable exp
	erimental realization of \nthis theory. I will give a non-technical review 
	of both theory and experiments.
