SUMMARY:Physics at the Cosmic Frontier with the Dark Energy Survey
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Dr. Marcelle Soares-Santos\, Fermilab\nHosted by: Tul
ika Bose\n\nPart of the HEE Seminar Series.\n\nAbstract:\nCosmic accelerati
on is one of the greatest challenges of contemporary high-energy physics. I
t has been addressed either by invoking a new energy component to the Unive
rse\, dark energy\, or by introducing a new fundamental theory of gravity.
Cosmic surveys such as the Dark Energy Survey (DES) shed light onto the pro
blem by measuring the expansion rate history and growth of large-scale stru
cture in the Universe. DES uses complementary techniques such as: type Ia S
upernovae\, galaxy cluster counts and weak gravitational lensing. In this t
alk\, I present an overview of recent DES results\, describe an initiative
to develop a new future technique — cosmic sirens — and discuss the pro
spects for improving our understanding of cosmic acceleration with the upco
	ming data.
