SUMMARY:CMT group meeting
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Cheng-Wei Liu\, Boston University\n\nPart of the Cond
ensed Matter Theory Seminar Series.\n\nAbstract: "Quantum annealing on spin
-glass system and its implication for quantum computing" -- First we will b
riefly summarize a generic non-equilibrium approach for studying continuous
phase transitions we developed recently. Then we will talk about the imple
mentation of this approach in the framework of quantum Monte Carlo algorith
m\, which leads us to imaginary-time quantum annealing. A clear distinction
will be made between the simulation-time quantum annealing and imaginary-t
ime quantum annealing. Finally we apply imaginary-time quantum annealing to
a spin-glass system. The numerical result allows us to quantify the perfor
mance of quantum annealing\, which shows worse scenario than the simulated
	annealing.
