SUMMARY:Stability of Chern and Fractional Chern insulators
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Dr. Adolfo Grushin\, MPIPKS\, Dresden\nHosted by: Cla
udio Chamon\n\nPart of the Condensed Matter Theory Seminar Series.\n\nAbstr
act: Chern insulators (CI) and fractional Chern insulators (FCI)\nare zero
field lattice analogues of the integer and fractional\nquantum Hall effect
s respectively. In this talk we will address the\nimportant problem of when
and how they are induced by interactions. For\nthe former\, we will focus
on the existing disagreement between mean field\ntheory results and exact d
	iagonalization/infinite density matrix\nrenormalization group (iDMRG)studie
s regarding the emergence of the CI state from a semi-metal via\nshort rang
e interactions. For the FCI state I will exemplify its full\nnumerical char
acterization with the help of iDMRG\, a method which will\nallows us to add
ress\, amongst other things\, the character of the Metal-FCI phase transiti
on\, a\npossible benchmark for future experiments.
