SUMMARY:Dark Matter + Heavy Quark Production at ATLAS
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Michael Kruskal\n\nPart of the Departmental Seminars.
	\n\nDissertation Committee: Steve Ahlen\, John Butler\, Michael El-Batanou
	ny\, Edward Kearns\, Kenneth Lane\n\nAbstract:\n\nDespite making up over 80
% of the matter in the universe and numerous cosmological observations\, ve
ry little is actually known about dark matter. While its large-scale proper
ties are known\, important details such as the different types of dark matt
er particles\, their quantum properties\, and their interactions remain com
plete unknowns that are only loosely constrained by experimental results. T
he absence of any direct detection and the recently observed gamma ray exce
ss from the galactic center have led to speculation that dark matter may in
teract more strongly with heavy quarks than with ordinary matter. In this
seminar I lay out a search for the production of dark matter with preferent
ial couplings to bottom and top quarks using the ATLAS detector at the Larg
	e Hadron Collider.\n\n![Michael](/resources/event-image/1281/3b6d1dd_small)
