SUMMARY:Wigner distribution functions for complex dynamical systems
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Dries Sels\, Universiteit Antwerpen\nHosted by: Luca
D'Alessio\n\nPart of the Condensed Matter Theory Seminar Series.\n\nAbstrac
t:\n\nThe equation of motion for the reduced Wigner function of a system co
upled\nto an external quantum system is presented for the specific case whe
n the\nexternal quantum system can be modeled as a set of harmonic oscillat
ors.\nThe result is derived from the Wigner-Weyl formulation of the\nFeynma
n-Vernon influence functional theory for the reduced propagator. It\nis sh
own how the true self-energy for the equation of motion is connected\nwith
the influence functional for the path integral. Explicit expressions\nare d
erived in terms of the bare propagator. It will be shown under\nwhich appro
ximations the resulting equation of motion reduces to the \nBoltzmann equat
	ion.
