SUMMARY:Learning How to Count
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Anson Hook\, Institute of Advanced Studies\n\nPart of
	 the HET Seminar Series.\n\nAbstract:\nWe introduce a search technique that
	 is sensitive to a broad class of\nsignals with large final state multiplic
	ities. Events are clustered into\nlarge radius jets and jet sub-structure t
	echniques are used to count the\nnumber of subjets within each jet. The sea
	rch consists of a cut on the\ntotal number of subjets in the event as well 
	as the summed jet mass and\nmissing energy. Two different techniques for co
	unting subjets are\ndescribed and expected sensitivities are presented for 
	eight benchmark\nsignals. These signals exhibit diverse phenomenology\, inc
	luding 2-step\ncascade decays\, direct three body decays\, and multi-top fi
	nal states. We\nfind improved sensitivity to these signals as compared to p
	revious high\nmultiplicity searches as well as a reduced reliance on missin
	g energy\nrequirements. One benefit of this approach is that it allows for 
	natural\ndata driven estimates of the QCD background.
