- What if I cannot afford the $70 application fee?
Boston University requires that the $70 application fee be paid before your
application is forwarded to the departmental admissions committee for review.
We regret that we generally do not make exceptions to this policy. Therefore,
to guarantee that your application gets reviewed, it is in your best interest
to pay the application fee.
- How can I arrange to visit Boston University?
Please contact the Physics Department main office at (617)353-2623, or send
an e-mail message to cabello@physics.bu.edu.
Please call at least one week in advance, so we can arrange to have several
faculty and students available to talk with you. If you would like to sit in
on a graduate-level class, please refer to our course
schedule and let us know which course you would like to see. You can also
refer to our research group listing and contact
individual faculty members working in your area of interest. We particularly
encourage students to visit on Tuesdays, when we hold our departmental
colloquium.

- What type of financial aid can I receive? How much is tuition?
Current tuition rates, room & board charges, and cost of living information
can be found at http://WWW.BU.EDU/bulletins/GRS/item04/
Traditionally, students are appointed as teaching assistant fellowships for
the first two years of the program. Teaching fellows receive a waiver of tuition
as well as a stipend of $8,000 per semester ($2,000 per month). By the end
of the second year, (after fulfilling all course requirements), students are
placed in a research group and receive a research fellowship. Research fellows
also receive a waiver of tuition and the same stipend as teaching fellows.
The Graduate School also offers several fellowships, such as the Presidential
University Graduate Fellowships, which offer a stipend and waiver of tuition,
and exempt students from teaching duties. See http://WWW.BU.EDU/bulletins/GRS/item04/#anchor10
for more information.
