Boston University invites high school students who will be entering their senior year in September of 1998 to spend an academically challenging summer as members of the nineteenth annual High School Honors Program. This residential program accepts highly qualified students from across the United States.

Students who apply choose between the General Honors Program and the Research Internship Program. Enrollment in each program is limited to thirty students to ensure a favorable learning environment and to foster a sense of community. While living in an on-campus dormitory, participants experience the excitement of college life in a structured environment. Students are expected to pace themselves in order to balance their academic and social lives. The follow individualized schedules, organizing their own study or research time and optional activities.

THE GENERAL HONORS PROGRAM

Students in the General Honors Program register for two courses (eight credits) selected from offerings in Boston University's Summer Session II course listings. These courses cover a broad range of subjects, including
 

General Honors Program participants are treated as college students; they are expected to attend and participate in class, take examinations, and complete course assignments. Many students get involved with study groups in their class to assist in studying and to meet other students. Classes can be transferred as credit toward an B.A or B.S. degree at many undergraduate colleges and universities, and are fully counted toward Boston University degree requirements. THE RESEARCH INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

The Research Internship Program seeks highly talented and motivated students to participate in ongoing research in one of the many Boston University laboratories under the direction of a faculty mentor who is an experienced research scientist. Research laboratories in the Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Astronomy departments participate in the program, as well as selected laboratories in the College of Engineering and the School of Medicine. Each student joins a research group and works on a research project for thirty to forty hours per week over the six-week summer session. Seminars and field trips supplement the learning experience. The program does not offer course credit, but provides opportunities for gifted science students to experience the culture and methodology of a research environment.
